Gambar televisi pertama yang menampilkan foto Bumi dari ruang angkasa. Foto ini ditransmisikan oleh satelit cuaca TIROS-1 pada tahun 1960.

Semua citra satelit yang dipotret oleh misi-misi NASA dipublikasikan melalui NASA Earth Observatory dan tersedia secara gratis.^[4] Beberapa negara lainnya juga memiliki program pencitraan satelit, seperti satelit ERS dan Envisat yang merupakan hasil kolaborasi negara-negara Eropa. Terdapat pula perusahaan swasta yang menyediakan citra satelit komersial.

All satellite imagery captured by NASA missions is published through the NASA Earth Observatory and is freely available.[4] Several other countries also have satellite imaging programs, such as the ERS satellite and Envisat, a collaboration between European countries. Private companies also provide commercial satellite imagery.

Citra satelit dapat digunakan untuk memproduksi gambar komposit yang menampilkan kedua belahan Bumi

Satellite imagery can be used to produce composite images showing both hemispheres of the Earth.
